Why coaching? Why CrossFit?

CrossFit is the medium through which I am able to build relationships, instill self-esteem, and enhance fitness so that people can lead more active, balanced lives. CrossFit is more than a training methodology; it’s a lifestyle. The community and camaraderie that is cultivated in the affiliates is simply unbelievable. Individuals from all walks of life unite in pursuit of a common goal: to get better every day. Success is relative to the individual and may not always be apparent, but compassion, empathy, kindness, and support are recognized by everyone, and are universal in the affiliates.

Since discovering CrossFit in 2012, I have had an undeniable passion for the program as a training methodology and sport. I quickly realized CrossFit was the most efficient and effective means by which to improve health and fitness, enhance functionality, and increase longevity. As Coach Glassman stated, “Excellence is obvious to everyone. It’s just that easy.” Following the completion of my CrossFit Level 1 Certificate Course in 2013, I have had experiences at several facilities including: Reebok CrossFit ONE, Reebok CrossFit St. Thomas, Arsenal Strength, and the University of Pittsburgh.

The Lord has enabled me to reach people and change lives through human movement. It is His blessing and the continued pursuit of excellence, that will provide the means necessary to continue building relationships, instilling self-esteem, and enhancing fitness so that people can lead more active, balanced lives. I am honored to be a part of the amazing community that is CrossFit.

ASHLEY BRODERICK

I am originally from Rochester, New York, but lived in Pittsburgh for eight years. I received my Bachelor’s degree in Exercise Science and Master’s degree in Health and Physical Activity at the University of Pittsburgh. I fell in love with exercise, and I earned my certified strength and conditioning certification so I could help people become better versions of themselves through fitness. I played multiple sports growing up but went to college for diving. I ended up fracturing my back, which forced me to sign medical release at PITT. Following my injury, for years, I struggled to do simple, daily activities due to chronic pain. Luckily, my fiancé, Derrick, introduced me to CrossFit two years ago, and I have never been more grateful. Week after week, and month after month, I continued to get stronger until eventually, I had no back pain at all; I fell in love with the sport! CrossFit is what led me to finding my other passion, nutrition. I started to dial in my nutrition and really focus on eating nutrient-dense, whole foods. Once I began paying attention to what I was putting in my body, I almost immediately felt and looked better! That process led me to getting my Precision Nutrition Certification. My goal is to transmit positivity and instill optimism through fitness and nutrition, in order to help people improve their quality of life.

SAM RUEHLMAN

I’ve been an athlete my whole life. Competing in disciplines of martial arts, swimming, water polo, Olympic lifting, even track and field. I have been seriously involved in CrossFit for 10 years, and competitively lifting for 14 years. I assist in the CrossFit weightlifting/ Burgener Strength level 1 certifications as well as the USA weightlifting level 1 certifications. I have been nationally ranked over the years and have been an alternate for the US university international team. I LOVE motivating others to reach their goals as an individual and as athletes.

“This gal has a ton of talent as an athlete and as a CrossFit trainer, she is a great asset to the CrossFit community!” – Mike Burgener, USAW Sr. International Coach

“Olympic lifting and CrossFit are not dangerous, bad coaching & technique is dangerous.”
